ATTENTION:

The ICIT department at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks an IAM & Systems Automation Engineer (SR IS Specialist). This will be a fixed term renewable appointment. JOB DETAILS:

This position works under broad direction of the CTO and is aligned with the objectives and priorities established by overall work unit directives. The occupant of this position is expected to perform advanced IS duties related to the management and support of hardware platforms, systems software (including operating systems) and applications software. These duties include planning and needs assessment, installation, maintenance, problem resolution, security, and system monitoring. The primary emphasis of this position is on development and support of the University’s Identity and Access Management (IAM) infrastructure.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Five years of experience operating in an architect or senior developer role on enterprise-wide development projects
  • Technical experience with IAM solutions and components including user provisioning, enterprise single sign-on, federation and web access management.
  • Two years of experience with Identity and Access Management suites such as NetIQ or equivalent
  • Strong knowledge of one or more scripting or development frameworks such as .Net, PowerShell, Perl, Unix shell scripting, including using these scripting frameworks to interact with system APIs to automate tasks
Desired Qualifications:
  • Extensive knowledge of Directory Services such as Active Directory and Agile
  • Strong knowledge of authentication protocols such as LDAP, SAML and others
  • Demonstrated ability to design, specify, install, manage and maintain enterprise Identity Management infrastructure, including integration with enterprise systems such as PeopleSoft
  • Experience integrating provisioning and account management functions for a variety of disparate systems including but not limited to database systems, email systems, web application systems, operating system directories and other systems
  • Analytical skills with acute attention to details and ability to diagnose problems and develop solutions quickly and completely
  • Excellent understanding of the software development life cycle

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Typical duties of this position include:
  • Provide architecture, design, deployment and subject matter expertise with the Identity and Access Management Suite of products
  • Provide collaboration and leadership in the technical decisions that must be made to support the functional vision and the overall technical design of the IAM solution
  • Ensure the smooth operation of large UW-Whitewater and UW System Identity and Access Management Systems
  • Work closely with integrators/developers to make sure business requirements are achieved
  • Consult with customers to determine options that will address their needs
  • Prepare cost and time estimates on requests for services
  • Evaluate and prioritize requests for new services
  • Analyze requirements for new/enhanced services
  • Maintain existing middleware services
  • Develop new middleware services
  • Prepare status reports customer and UW-Whitewater management review
  • Meet with other staff regarding system interfaces and integration issues
  • Participate in R&D activities to bring new middleware technology to campus
60% A. Identity and Access Management infrastructure support and enhancement
  1. Assess issues and considerations in integrating applications or system services with campus IAM infrastructure. Consider costs and benefits and propose integrations that reduce cost or enhance user service.
  2. Install, maintain and upgrade the technical components of the campus IAM infrastructure including IAM middleware, drivers and application servers. Review releases for new functionality and recommend, plan and perform upgrades as needed.
  3. Integrate systems and services with campus IAM infrastructure through application configuration, middleware integration, custom programming or other means. Where necessary, specify and manage vendor deliverables for integration.
  4. Design, install, configure and maintain IAM workflow engine and related software.
  5. Establish IAM workflows for key processes including but not limited to account provisioning and deprovisioning, requests for authorization or services and other business functions. Write automated scripts and application interfaces to perform provisioning and deprovisioning activities based on data changes in IAM system.
  6. Consult with server administrators, application owners and other stakeholders to determine appropriate business rules and implement rules into campus IAM system.
  7. Evaluate vendor proposals and customer requests for IAM integration with departmental or 3rd party systems for efficient resource usage and consistency with organizational direction. Develop and deploy IAM integrations to meet customer requests.
  8. Design and develop tests and testing procedures, prepare documentation on test criteria, execute according to plans and document results. Tests are to: establish proof of concept, functionality, and test against negative impacts of introducing new systems and technology into existing infrastructure.
  9. Document standard practices and system capabilities for other ICIT staff to use in customer consultations.
  10. Automate routine IAM-related tasks through the use of workflow or scripting.
  11. Provide tools and interfaces that allow IAM issues to be resolved by front-line support personnel.
  12. Monitor performance of workflows and self-service components to ensure efficient operation and high availability. Write scripts to collect and interpret data as necessary.
  13. Prepare and/or deliver presentations on capabilities, recommendations and plans of IAM workflow and self-service infrastructure.
  14. Prepare and maintain detailed documentation on systems and services including spreadsheets, Visio diagrams and text documents.
  15. Actively monitor publications and reports from system vendors and advisory services. Respond to alerts and notifications by applying fixes and patches in a timely manner to maintain the integrity of the systems and protect systems and services from security threats.
  16. Develop and deliver training programs and materials to customers.
  17. Provide long-term projections, plans and proposals for growth and management of IAM environment.
35% B. Systems & Infrastructure Automation and Support
  1. Following department and University standards and processes, plan, deploy, configure, maintain and support automation of routine processes for servers and related services, including but not limited to File and Print services, Active Directory, Group Policy, IIS and other common infrastructure services.
  2. Write scripts as needed to monitor and instrument infrastructure services to gauge performance and capacity and to alert based on capacity or performance concerns. Monitoring should ensure that team is alerted to problem situations before they have a customer impact.
  3. Automate routine or repetitive tasks through the use of PowerShell, Perl, Unix Shell or other scripting interface. Work with other system administrators to prioritize tasks for automation and design automated workflows.
  4. Create tools and interfaces that allow routine support functions to be performed by junior admins, support personnel and end users.
  5. Periodically perform duties during off-hours and on weekends to minimize impact on customers.
5% C. Enhance Personal Skills and Knowledge
  1. Assist management with the preparation of an annual personal and professional development plan.
  2. Participate in personal and professional development activities identified to enhance job skills.
  3. Stay abreast of the changing technologies by reading professional journals, attending workshops/seminars as well as learning from peers and colleagues both internal and external to the university.
