Assistant Football Coach and Admissions Counselor - 20811 (UWW Internal Only)

ATTENTION:

The Departments of Intercollegiate Athletics and Admissions are seeking an Assistant Football Coach (CC003) and an Admissions Counselor (Admissions and Recruitment Coordinator II (AE084)). This position will be split as 50% Assistant Coach and 50% Admissions Counselor.

This is an internal posting for current UW-Whitewater employees. Applicants who currently are not employed by UW-Whitewater in a qualifying category (USTE, University Staff, Academic Staff, Grad Assistant, Faculty, Limited) will not be considered. JOB DETAILS:

The Assistant Coach will assist the Head Coach in the planning, recruiting, coaching, developing, implementing, communicating and administering of his/her program to achieve University and Department objectives. Goals and objectives are to be developed prior to the beginning of each season with the Head Coach. The selected candidate will exhibit behavior that enhances the respect for the student-athletes, the athletics program, the University, and yourself in the conduct of your professional responsibilities. This position is required to assist in the direction and control of your program in accordance with NCAA, WIAC, and University rules and regulations. Violation of University, NCAA or Conference rules on the part of Athletic Department personnel may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.

The Admissions Counselor assists prospective students in navigating the college selection process. This is a 12-month position that reports to the Assistant Director of Admissions, and will be responsible for recruiting, admitting and enrolling a talented and diverse student body. This position will establish and maintain relationships with prospective students, parents, and high school counselors. The Admissions Counselor will recruit in both Wisconsin and Illinois. The individual will present information to prospective students during scheduled daily visit presentations, will assist during campus open house events and will perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant/Director. Domestic travel is required, especially during the fall and spring recruitment seasons.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Earned Bachelor's degree
  • Valid driver's license (or ability to obtain a valid driver's license)
  • One-year experience in admissions, recruitment, higher education, or marketing related field
  • Strong written communication and public speaking skills
  • Previous collegiate football coaching experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong organizational and event planning skills
  • Bilingual in Spanish/English. Ability to professionally speak, read, write and translate between languages
  • Professional experience working with students and/or individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Experience with use of CRM (customer relationship management) systems, particularly Slate
  • Familiarity with student information systems, particularly PeopleSoft
  • Effective interpersonal skills and ability to establish positive relationships with students, staff and faculty
  • Experienced football recruiter
  • Fundraising experience
  • Summer football camp administrative experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  •  Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills
  • Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds

RESPONSIBILITIES:

ASSISTANT COACH:

GENERAL ADMINISTRATION OF PROGRAM/COACHING:

1. Adhere to all rules and guidelines of the NCAA, WIAC and University.
2. Assist head coach to plan and direct the development of student-athletes in relation to general and specific skills necessary for successful competition.
3. Adhere to all athletic training measures for the safety and welfare of student-athletes.
4. Assist with scheduling, conduct, and management of intercollegiate athletics contests.
5. Assist with Instructing student-athletes in the principles and rules of the sport, WIAC and University policies.
6. Schedule, prepare, and supervise all team practices, travel and activities in the absence of the head coach.
7. Attend staff meetings/professional development seminars, and assist with total program issues.
8. Represent the head coach at WIAC and NCAA meetings in their absence.
9. Assist head coach to ensure the safety, maintenance and preparation of the playing and practice areas for all student-athletes.
10. Assist with the monitoring of the academic progress of the student-athletes on your team ensuring that normal progress is made toward the attainment of the degree.

RECRUITING:

1. Assist with recruitment and recommendation of student-athletes to the University.
2. Complete recruiting logs on a monthly basis.
3. Interact with admissions personnel in the recruitment policies and procedures for the University.

DEVELOPMENT:

1. Assist the head coach with fund raising projects needed to support program. 
2. Assist the head coach with support and promotion of sport.
3. Assist with the total program support through Athletic Department activities and events.

SCHOLARLY AND PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITY:

1. Attend job-related clinics and conferences.
2. Maintain current membership in professional organizations.
3. Attend appropriate WIAC meetings in the absence of the head coach.

UNIVERSITY AND COMMUNITY SERVICE:

1. Serve on department and university committees as needed.
2. Serve as a resource to the community in areas of expertise.
3. Assist the head coach with the development of outreach activities which support and enhance the athletics program, individual sports, and university.

ADMISSIONS COUNSELOR:

The following examples of duties and responsibilities illustrate the general range of tasks assigned to the position, but are not intended to define the limits of required duties. Other essential duties may be assigned consistent with the general scope of the position.

GENERAL DUTIES:

1. Market, recruit and provide customer support to prospects and applicants through face-to-face interactions, small and large group presentations, educational fairs, telephone and email inquiries, and high school visits. This may include extensive travel, including nights and weekends, primarily in Wisconsin and Illinois.
2. Build relationships and coordinate recruiting activities with targeted community organizations and school districts. Cultivate relationships with community partners.
3. Establish working relationships with high school counselors in assigned regions.
4. Coordinate prospective student programming to further develop the commitment to UW-W.
5. Create and implement effective communication strategies using the CRM and other venues of outreach.
6. Use data and current trends to strategically market to and recruit high school students within designated region.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

1. Travel to and recruit students at college fairs and high schools in assigned territories.
2. Assist and monitor student application processing and data entry.
3. Review applications and make admission decisions in a fair manner, consistent with university and office policy.
4. Field telephone and email inquiries from potential students and families and deliver informational presentations to students who come to campus for a tour.
5. Meet with prospective students and their parents during campus visits.
6. Be familiar with university policies and procedures, especially Housing, Financial Aid, First Year Experience, and Center for Students with Disabilities, to communicate effectively with prospects.
7. Facilitate conversations around scholarship opportunities for prospective students.
8. Participate in professional organizations, conferences and workshops when appropriate.
9. Serve as a liaison for one of the academic colleges and/or other university departments as a representative of the Admissions Office to serve as the primary office contact.
10. Additional duties as prescribed by the Assistant/Director of Admissions.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Well-qualified candidates can expect a starting annual salary of $42,024.
