INTRODUCTION:

The Facilities, Planning and Management department at the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater seeks a Shuttle Bus Driver (Motor Vehicle Operator - Light).

This position is primarily responsible for shuttling students/staff to and from the UW Rock County Campus to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater campus. This position will work 7:00AM – 4:00PM, Monday through Friday and reports to the Director of Facilities Planning and Management. The employee must have a valid driver’s license. The employee must be able to communicate well with others, to work independently in performing the described job duties, and to have knowledge of campus locations and connecting routes. Additionally, the employee is expected to perform in a professional and courteous manner and conduct themselves within established guidelines.

JOB DUTIES:

  1. Operate a Shuttle Bus for Students, Staff, Faculty and Visitors on a designated route in a timely matter
  2. Use exceptional customer service skills in all interactions
  3. Attend professional development and training programs as required
  4. Perform vehicle inspections; maintain cleanliness of shuttle interiors
  5. Fuel/service shuttle vehicle and document services as instructed
  6. Report any accidents, violations of policy, safety hazards or unusual occurrences
  7. Comply with traffic regulations in order to operate vehicles in a safe and courteous manner
  8. Assist with academic/special event trips
  9. Maintain a good driving record on and off duty

QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School or equivalent
  • A valid state-issued driver's license
  • Ability to qualify as a State of Wisconsin approved vehicle operator
  • Satisfactory completion of 14-passenger vehicle operator training (University provided)
  • Satisfactory completion of First Aid, CPR and First Responder training as required
  • At least 25 years of age
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Well-developed public relations skills; able to perform duties in a flexible, non-confrontational environment; work with members of a diverse community, utilize diplomacy and tact in sensitive situations
  • Ability to work independently, sit and drive for long periods of time
  • Effectively operate a variety of equipment including portable/mobile radios and computers
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, with the ability to complete clear, concise, and accurate logs, reports, and other documentation
  • Ability to positively impact service work as a member of a team and diverse community
  • Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills
  • Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds
