ResNET Overview

The UW-Whitewater ResNET is a collection of over 4200 network ports (jacks) throughout the residence hall system. We have a "port-per-pillow" configuration, which means that all persons living in a room can connect a computer to the network at the same time. There are also numerous common area ports available, although many common area jacks may not be configured by default.

ResNET provides full, round-the-clock access to the Internet and all UW-Whitewater networked computing resources, such as file servers, mainframe computers, printers, and more. Please note that for most students, file server access and printer access will be limited. Printers are only available in public labs, and file server access is usually only granted on demonstration of need within a specific academic department. Note that no one can log into a file server unless they have an account on that server, which is NOT the same as an account on the campus mail server. All students (including off-campus and commuter students) automatically get accounts created on the mail server.

ResNET requires that computers conform to the minimum system requirements to be able to connect. Setup guides are available for wired and wireless connections for all supported operating systems at the front desks of all halls as well as in the information racks located in or near every residence hall lab. These same guides may also be found on the ResNET homepage.

Students using ResNET are subject to some special rules and regulations. The main policies are covered in the ResNET Acceptable Use Policy and the ResNET General Policies. Use of ResNET facilities and connections constitutes knowledge of and agreement to these policies.
