Microsoft Office ProPlus

Office 365 Education for Students is available for FREE to students who are enrolled at UW-Whitewater. 

NOTE: Office 365 ProPlus is currently only available on Windows PCs. The Mac and mobile device version may be available in the future.

Features of Office 365:

  • Active students can download and install Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus on up to five personal devices.
  • The software is available for Windows 7 and Windows 8 PCs and laptops.
  • Includes Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, OneNote, and OneDrive. 
  • NOTE: Devices must be able to connect to the internet at least once every 30 days to retain their activation for Office.
  • NOTE: Students will lose access to the free software once they discontinue enrollment at UW-L. You can purchase a subscription to Microsoft Office 365 if you would like to continue to have access to the software by order through OnTheHub

Google Drive is the supported campus solution for online document creation and collaboration. UW-Whitewater DOES NOT advise students to sign up for One Drive for educational purposes. NOTE: Installation for phones and tablets are not included in the UW-Whitewater license at this time. Personal licenses can be purchased through OnTheHub.

FAQ

Is this a full version Office and available for offline use? Yes, this is full Office on the PC and is available for offline use. However, students must connect to the Internet once every 30 days to verify they are still eligible for the program (only enrolled students).

What applications come with Office 365 ProPlus for PC?

Word 2013, Excel 2013, PowerPoint 2013, OneNote 2013, Access 2013, Publisher 2013, Outlook 2013 Lync 2013 and InfoPath 2013 are not enabled for UW-Whitewater students. If you click on Lync, it will auto start when you turn on your PC.

How can I disable Lync?

To Disable Lync AutoStart:

  • Click on a down arrow from Lync client and select "Show Menu Bar"
  • Once File menu is available:
    • Tools -> Options
    • Unselect "Automatically start Lync when I log on to Windows"
    • Click "OK" to save your selection.
  • Exit the Lync client
    • File -> Exit
    • OR right click on the Lync client icon on the system tray -> Exit

How long can you use ProPlus?

Access to Microsoft ProPlus will continue long as you are a enrolled in classes. When you are no longer eligible, you will still be able to access and print your files. However, you will not be able to install new instances of Office 365 ProPlus and you will not be able to create/save/edit files. You have the option of purchasing Office 365 ProPlus directly from Microsoft. Each student can install Office ProPlus on up to five home or personally-owned PCs/Macs. Microsoft will automatically issue updates.
